Black Rock, Barbados: A Local's Guide
Yelluh Meat sits on Black Rock Main Road, a working stretch of the island that's part residential, part everyday errands, and a real traffic corridor, not a tourist strip. Here's what's actually around us, and where we send people for what we don't do.

What's On Our Stretch of Road
We're directly across the road from a Chefette, one of the largest fast-food chains in Barbados, so it's an easy landmark if you're giving directions. Right next door to us is Out The Box Catering, and Black Rock Auto, the neighborhood's mechanic, works right on our own property. Also right next door, on the other side, sits a specialist medical center and a pharmacy, with a Catholic church just past them.
Head toward the Deacons Road junction and you'll pass Flintstones hardware first, then the Branford Taitt Polyclinic (known locally as the Black Rock Polyclinic), with Stantec's engineering office right beside it. A bit further on is the other hardware store, across the road from the gas station, then Channell Supermarket.
Head the other way, toward Eagle Hall, and you'll find a Rubis gas station, a funeral home, and a market, plus Hot Legendary Fishcakes, right across from R.A. Mapp, good for a bread and two if you're out early.
Casual by Design
Pull up to Yelluh Meat and the first thing you'll notice isn't white tablecloths, it's a mechanic's bay, a utility truck parked mid-job, and picnic tables set out on gravel. That's not an accident, it's who we are. We're a working takeout spot on a real working road, and every bit of effort that isn't going into decor is going into the bowl in front of you: the fire, the ingredients, the craft. Come hungry, not dressed up, and you'll understand exactly why people keep coming back.

Why This Road Matters
Black Rock Main Road is a main route people use heading north out of the city, or between the city and the island's central area. That means real passing traffic every day, not just neighbors, and it's not only about people driving through. Right next door to us, a specialist medical center and pharmacy bring a steady stream of parents in for checkups, and it's ordinary workday traffic the rest of the time, the kind of road that stays busy for everyday reasons.
Once a year, it becomes something else entirely: the Crop Over Kadooment Day parade runs right along our stretch of road. We built our Kadooment Day Oasis around it, an elevated viewing deck with a full bar, right over the parade route.
Where We Send People for What We Don't Do
We don't try to be everything. If you're after something we don't serve, here's honestly where we'd point you:
• Rotisserie chicken: R.A. Mapp Rotisserie Chicken in Eagle Hall.
• Fish and chips: Gloria's on Baxter's Road.
• Liver cutters: Pink Star, also on Baxter's Road.
• Fish cakes for breakfast: Hot Legendary Fishcakes in Eagle Hall, directly across from R.A. Mapp. Order a bread and two.
• A different style of catering: Out The Box Catering, right next door to us. (You'll also spot Black Rock Auto, our on-site mechanic, part of what makes this stretch feel like a real working road rather than a polished strip.)
• Rum punch: Garry's Rum Punch, up the road near the polyclinic.
What to Expect When You Visit
Seating is outdoors, gravel-side: six picnic tables, each seating up to six, so plan on room for around 36 people at a time. Weekends are our busiest days, so if you're coming by on a Saturday, expect some company. Everything is prepared fresh, plated fresh, and served fresh, so a short wait just means your food is cooking, not sitting under a heat lamp. We've had visitors from all over the world stop by over the years, including a few public figures along the way, but this is home cooking on a real working road, not a set built for photos.
